Three representatives from the North Carolina Emergency Management Association traveled to Washington DC earlier this year to visit the offices of our North Carolina representatives in order to discuss a number of national-level emergency management topics; and, to provide Congressional representatives with our opinions and concerns on these important issues.
NCEM Association members traveling to Washington DC included Scott Garner (Brunswick County EM and NCEMA President), Karyn Yaussy (Catawba County EM and NCEMA 1st Vice-President) and Brian Short (Vance County EM and NCEMA Legislative Committee Chairman).
During the short two-day period set aside to work with our North Carolina Congressional Delegation; our NCEMA team was able to visit fourteen of the fifteen Delegation offices. Our NCEMA visitors spoke with staff members in some offices and they met face-to-face with three legislators.
Direct meetings involved Congressman Mark Walker, Congressman Patrick McHenry, and Congressman David Rouzer.
Copies of the position papers regarding issues of concern to our Association that was discussed during each delegation office visit are attached below.
